The long anticipated sequel and book 2 of the Stormlight Archive hit stores march 4th. It picks up right were we left off, the assassin in white has decapitated the leadership of Roshar and targets Dalinar Kholin the blackthorn and true power behind the Alethi kingship. While the first book of any epic fantasy series needs to build the world, the second book needs to make us care about the characters. If you have read fantasy for long enough nearly everyone reads “this big book that goes nowhere.” The second book in the series needs to be paced particularly well to keep the reader engaged and show significant character development. Words of Radiance has it in spades.

Bringing us back to the world filled with Spren as the war against the Parshendi escaltes on the shattered plains, and with the assassin in white gutting nobility and power all over the world is now targeting Dalinar the arguably the real power behind the Alethi throne. Kaladin, who has sworn to protect Dalinar and the king, is struggling to master his new windrunner powers while keeping them secret, has also been elevated from a branded slave to the new royal guard commander. The Way of Kings, by Brandon Sanderson The Way of Kings is Brandon’s first volume in his new epic fantasy series: The Stormlight Archives. Released in 2010, it’s been 4 long years since my first read through but to properly examine the book we first need to get some perspective.

I’m going to honest, I’m burned out. Dead as a door nail, stick a fork in me, I’m done. # I’m stressed out, but not from one particular task or subject. I come home mentally exhausted, and usually with a headache. This isn’t anything new, everyone gets burned out from time to time, but my usual management techniques just don’t work anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I put on a good face but I’m dead inside. I get accolades and awards for my work. I make time for my hobbies every other weekend yet I feel unfulfilled. This isn’t depression, depression is an old companion of mine. Depression I could handle, mange, and live with. I’ve always been a self-starter, but what I lack is a more important, a goal. I’m fighting complacency, I’m satisfied with what I have accomplished thus far and I struggle to want more.

As an avid fan of all things sci-fi and fantasy, I thoroughly enjoy RPGs. One close to my heart is Dungeons & Dragons. While its been many years since I’ve played I’ve started to dabble once again in the immense world limited only by your imagination.

So I wanted to install Jetpack but once I activated the plugin I was no longer able to reach the WordPress admin area. My obvious conclusion was that something about the plugin wasn’t agreeing with my server. After a quick once over the logs and finding nothing useful I needed to manually disable the plug-in. This can be done easily by deleting the value from ‘active_plugins’ row in the ‘wp_options’ table in your wordpress database. For most people with managed servers you can use phpMyAdmin to quickly navigate and edit to value. However seeing as I do not have it installed I needed to manually edit my database.
